The concert “Sakamoto 1996” comes to Teatro Virgínia, performed by João Vasco, Pedro Lopes and Fernando Costa.
Combining piano, violin, cello and a strong multimedia component, the performance offers an immersive experience of music and imagery that revisits the work of Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto. The trio performs “1996” live, a work presented by the composer on two world tours, using the original scores published in a rare edition supervised by Sakamoto himself.
The programme includes some of the composer’s most iconic film scores, including “The Last Emperor”, “Babel”, “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence” and “Wuthering Heights”.
João Vasco, a piano teacher at the National Conservatory, combines musical performance with composition, photography and video, and has performed in more than 30 countries. Pedro Lopes, a teacher at the National Conservatory’s School of Music and a member of the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra, has also received international recognition for his artistic career. Fernando Costa is one of Portugal’s leading cellists of his generation, with an extensive international career and three released albums.
Suitable for ages 6 and over, the concert lasts 65 minutes. Tickets cost €16.
