Tó Trips & The Fake Latinos

Tó Trips has amassed nearly four decades of dedication to the guitar, in a rare case of steady resilience and constant inventiveness. As a musician, guitarist, and composer, he achieved his greatest international recognition with the duo formed alongside Pedro Gonçalves, Dead Combo. In his solo career, he is the author of an extensive and award-winning body of work, frequently “rediscovered” by cinema and television to shape unimaginable soundscapes. After his debut album Guitarra 66 (2009) and the subsequent project Guitarra Makaka: Danças a um Deus Desconhecido (2015), he released Popular Jaguar (2023).

In 2025, he began a new chapter, joined by Alexandre Frazão on drums, António Quintino on double bass, and Helena Espvall on cello, forming The Fake Latinos. The group’s album, Dissidente, represents for Tó Trips “a handful of songs, of places, of life stories — sometimes darker, sometimes more luminous — always with one foot in Lisbon and the other elsewhere. Where the way of playing guitar from the past meets that of today!”
