Companion Animal Sterilization Support Program 2026

Within the scope of the animal welfare policy and the control of stray animal populations, the Municipality of Torres Novas will allocate, for 2026, a total of €7,000 for financial reimbursement of companion animal sterilization (dogs and cats).

Thus, residents who own companion animals may apply for the following reimbursements: €95 for the sterilization of female dogs, €80 for male dogs, €55 for female cats, and €30 for male cats.

This program applies to animals whose owners reside in the municipality of Torres Novas, with a maximum of four animals per household (up to three dogs).

Animals to be sterilized must be electronically identified, with updated registration in the Companion Animal Information System (SIAC), and must have a valid rabies vaccination recorded in their health booklet (in the case of dogs).

Applications must be submitted via the email address geral@cm-torresnovas.pt, by post, or in person at the municipal services (Municipal Veterinary Office), by November 30, or until the allocated funds are exhausted, for medical procedures carried out within the same period.

Applications will be assessed in order of submission, up to the maximum budget available. Only after validation of eligibility by the municipal veterinarian may the applicant proceed to a veterinary medical center of their choice to carry out the sterilization. Reimbursement will be made within a maximum period of 30 working days after invoice validation.
