A grandfather and grandmother exiled in a small village within their own country, and an anti-Salazarist, an unrepentant traveler who drops anchor in Buenos Aires. A music teacher who tells his students that being a musician is not a guaranteed path to happiness and that there is much pain in the human heart.

This is the story of a Portuguese family that lived through dictatorship, the colonial war, and the democratic revolution—the unlikely and surprising threads through which individual destinies weave the collective destiny.
