Chico César, Aos Vivos
Chico César celebrates the 30th anniversary of the album Aos Vivos, presenting the songs from this emblematic record in a solo concert.
May 1995: Chico César surprised audiences with the release of Aos Vivos, in a format that was very rare for a debut album — a live, solo recording (voice and guitar). Without a safety net. A challenge that the artist fully embraced and conquered.
Aos Vivos marked Chico César’s emergence to a wider audience, moving beyond the cult and underground niche of São Paulo’s nightlife. In the opening track, “Beradêro,” the Paraíba-born artist presents an aboio song, a genre passed down through generations of cowherds in Brazil’s backlands. This is followed by two of his greatest hits, “Mama África” and “À Primeira Vista,” in spontaneous and intimate versions. The album then unfolds through a sequence of original compositions, such as “Saharienne,” “Mulher Eu Sei,” and “Clandestino,” alongside collaborations and interpretations of other artists’ works, including “Paraíba,” by Luiz Gonzaga and Humberto Teixeira, and “Alma não tem cor,” by André Abujamra.
Thirty years later, this album — now regarded as a masterpiece of Brazilian popular music — returns to the stage in a celebratory tour.
