Exhibition dedicated to the research that has been carried out for 36 years in the karst system associated with the source of the Almonda River, a unique site for the study of prehistory in Portugal and Europe.
For the first time, the 400,000-year-old human fossil skull found in the Aroeira Cave is on display. The fossilised human skull known as ARO3 is one of the oldest human fossils in Western Europe.
João Zilhão is the archaeologist responsible for archaeological research in the karst system associated with the source of the Almonda River.
