On April 14, 2026, at the Town Hall of Torres Novas, a cooperation protocol was signed between the Municipality of Torres Novas and the Public Security Police (PSP) for the implementation of an urban video surveillance system in the city.
The document was formalized by the Mayor of Torres Novas, José Trincão Marques, and the District Commander of the PSP of Santarém, Superintendent Luís Carlos Silva Serafim.
The protocol establishes the legal framework and operating principles of the system, which aims to strengthen security in the city, prevent criminal activity, and support law enforcement operations.
According to the document, the Municipality of Torres Novas will be responsible for all costs related to the acquisition, installation, and maintenance of the video surveillance network, while the PSP will be responsible for the management, monitoring, and operational use of the recorded footage, as well as for the preservation and protection of the data, in full compliance with all legal requirements regarding the capture, processing, use, storage, and recording of images, as set out in Law no. 95/2021 of December 29 (GDPR) and Law no. 59/2019 of August 8.
