Insecure – A Tragedy of Misunderstandings, by Ana Markl

From April 24th at 21:30 until April 24th at 23:00

“There is nothing left where he used to lie.

My conversation has run dry,

That’s what is happening.

Nothing is right, I am undone.

I’ve lost all faith, that’s how I feel.

I’m cold and ashamed, lying naked on the floor.

The illusion never turned into something real.

I’m wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn.

You’re a little late, I’m already undone.”

Cutler, S., Preven, A., & Thornalley, P. (1995). Torn [Song]. United States: BMG.

(free translation; popularized by Natalie Imbruglia)

Perhaps the excess of songs about love has created fear; perhaps the excess of fear has created many songs about heartbreak. Perhaps heartbreak often happens because of fear, and perhaps insecurity leaves us on the edge: of acting, of speaking, of jumping or of running away. The fear of falling is also the fear of standing still, but the force of gravity (and the force of life) works exactly like that, pulling to the ground those who stand on the edge.
