Sex and Age

Vasco (Jorge Mourato) is celebrating his birthday. Or rather: trying to survive it. A failed writer, bankrupt and recently abandoned by his wife (whom he has not yet forgotten), he decides to gather his old friends for what, in theory, should be a night of celebration… but which quickly turns into a minefield of egos, resentments, and carefully crafted lies.

Rui (Pedro Teixeira), the soap opera heartthrob with whom Vasco is upset (for having had an affair with his ex-wife); Miguel (Diogo Valsassina), a psychologist and self-help coach who, more than anyone, urgently needs therapy himself; and Duarte (Manuel Marques), an unemployed lawyer full of theories — all arrive with stories of success, achievements, and self-confidence. None of which is entirely true.

Around the table, between drinks and vanity, the main topic of conversation is… women. The exes, the current ones, the imagined ones, and the unattainable ones. With humour, exaggeration, and a great deal of ignorance, the four friends attempt to decipher what they have never understood. If only they knew what is said when men are alone…

Sex and Age is a comedy that dives into the male universe with sarcasm, affection, and a generous dose of foolishness. A comic — and sometimes unsettling — portrait of friendship, masculinity, desire, and the eternal attempt to appear successful… even when everything is going wrong.
